| Master planning and design services
for the six story, 152 bed replacement inpatient tower.
Patient rooms are all private type with six isolation
and two protective environment rooms (in the intensive
care wing). Additional spaces include Critical Care
and Cardiac Care Units, meeting rooms and future auditorium.
Due to the age and location of the existing utility infrastructure, a recommendation of the master
plan was to provide a remote central energy plant to
allow future growth of the facility. Upon completion, the facility will have improved reliability in the central heating, cooling and emergency generation plants.
Additional projects completed as part of the master plan included conversion of a support building from a Use Group B to Use Group I2 occupancy and a complete enlargement/ renovation of the eight existing operating rooms. The latter presented the challenging requirement of maintaining six fully utilized ORs at any time. This required detailed design considerations and a carefully coordinated 10 phase, 18 month construction period.
In 2004, Korda Engineering received an Outstanding Achievement
Award for the design
of the Operating Room Cooling System Retrofi t project
from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC).
