| This new 500,000 SF tertiary
care hospital features 200 beds, with capacity for 68
additional beds. The new building is connected to the
existing ambulatory center with a pedestrian bridge.
The hospital design utilized some services provided
in the existing and remodeled Ambulatory, Diagnostic
and Treatment Center, and as a result, the new construction
will amount to about 1,700 SF per bed, which is well
below the expected range of 2,400 to 2,800 SF per bed
for modern tertiary care hospitals.
The Emergency Department is designed
for 55,000 annual visits with expansion capability for
a total of 68,000 visits. All patient rooms are single
occupancy; 30 are "Super ICU" capable. The typical medical/surgical
nursing units are in pods of 34 beds each and are acuity
adaptable. The 24-room Intervention Center, located
next to the surgery suite, is the principal location
for short stay patients.
The project has many sustainable
features. The plumbing fixtures in the public toilet
rooms have automatic controls and low water consumption
to minimize the potable water consumption. The mechanical
systems have variable air volume, variable speed pumping,
variable speed cooling towers, variable speed chillers,
air economizer and high efficiency boiler burners to
provide maximum energy efficiency. The generator plant
has multiple generators which can back up both normal
and emergency power for the entire hospital and features
a battery-free UPS system.
