Columbus
State Community College
Academic Building E
Delaware,
Ohio
A new 88,000 SF educational building that will include classrooms,
offices, computer labs, science labs, and gathering space
featuring multi-level lighting control, video conferencing,
distance learning classrooms, and audio visual telecommunications.
The building will also feature environmentally
friendly air conditioning refrigerant, high efficiency, low-flow
water closets and urinals to conserve water, reflective roof
to minimize cooling requirements, low-emitting materials to
improve indoor air quality, daylight harvesting, higher efficiency
lighting to reduce energy costs, and occupancy sensors. Sustainable
site features include vegetated bioswales which capture stormwater
from parking lots and rooftops. The bioswales promote clarification
and infiltration of stormwater by use of specific plant material
and topsoil mixture. Stormwater that exits the bioswales is
routed to a regional water quality/retention lake that serves
the entire campus. The lake contains both deep water and shallow
water areas to encourage both plant and animal diversity.
Shallow water areas are planted with native wetland species
to further promote stormwater quality through infiltration
and transpiration.
