Commercial Point Road bridge
Pickaway County, Ohio

The Commercial Point Road bridge over the Scioto River required replacement due to reduced load rating and inadequate width. The obstacles to resolve the successful replacement of the 700 foot long high truss structure included its historic status, an adjacent hazmat site, jurisdictional wetlands, mussel colonies, and the restrictive hydraulic controls of the wide Scioto River floodplain.

The replacement bridge is a five span prestressed concrete I-beam superstructure on modified T-type piers and stub abutments. The substructure units are supported on deep foundations. The modified location permits traffic to be maintained for the greater part of the construction period and accommodates the site limitations present.
